“The biggest challenge is weather. After a storm, it takes at minimum, a week of hard work to recover the island, if we are lucky! We all need to pitch in and work together in order to keep the island in its best condition.”
Disney Cruise Line offers many unique experiences for our Guests and our Crew, and working on Castaway Cay is no exception. Our Island Crew lives in the Bahamas where the climate is tropical throughout most of the year. The temperature ranges from 75 to 100 F or 25 to 45 C and gets very humid on most days with short daily rain showers during the rainy season. Casual and comfortable clothing can be worn throughout the year while living on Castaway Cay. From December through March, the weather may be a little cold and windy and light winter wear is recommended. A costume or specific outfit is assigned by the company and is required to be worn by all Island Crew on ship call days. The Disney Look guidelines must be followed on all call days.
The safety of our Guests and Island Crew Members on Castaway Cay is our number one priority, just as it is onboard our ships. All of our Island Crew receive company orientation and job training. Some will conduct their training onboard the ship while others will be trained directly on the Island. Either way, Disney Cruise Line ensures that its Island Crew is prepared to face Guests with confidence and a smile.
