Professional Development
Through Training

“I gained a lot of knowledge about the hospitality industry which was one of my goals. But DCL also trained me how to stay calm and in control during crisis situations, like getting our Guests to safety in the event of an emergency. These are skills that will stay with me wherever I go.”

A key part of our success lies in the personal growth and development of each Crew Member. Our training programs are part of the Disney Way and are essential to the success of our company and our Crew Members. Our goal is to provide our Crew with the knowledge they need to achieve the highest level of safety and satisfaction.

Disney Cruise Line provides extensive training, divided into five categories:

Orientation Training where Crew Members learn about the heritage, traditions, and values of DCL and discover the Disney Way.

Regulatory Training is required by international regulations such as STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) and SOLAS (Safety Of Life At Sea).

On-the-Job Training continues onboard where new Crew Members become familiar with their role, the equipment utilized, and resources available to exceed Guests’ expectations.

Health and Safety Training including extensive instruction on the United States Public Health (USPH) guidelines contributes to the personal health and safety of our Crew and Guests.

Leadership Training introduces our company’s philosophies and expectations of a leader and advances your personal growth and professional future.

In addition to the above, there are other ongoing training and self development opportunities available to all Crew Members. One important resource always available to our Crew is our ship library, The Helm, which has information on a number of topics, including team building, effective communications, resume/cv writing, interviewing skills, and typing programs.

Crew Members with any previous documented training are more than welcome to bring official certificates with them on their first day of work to receive recognition of their past training.
