The Importance of Rules

“This is a ship. It’s not a playground, and it’s up to us to keep it safe for everyone. That’s why Crew Members have to stay focused and follow the regulations. It’s our responsibility to make the guests feel at home and bring them back home. Safe.”

Yes, we have a lot of rules and regulations. But they are in place for one very good reason: everyone’s success. By embracing our system of rules and regulations, Crew Members help to create a positive and respectful living and working experience, as well as upholding our high standards and promoting ship safety. Learning all of our essential Disney Cruise Line rules, values and beliefs is simply not enough. Actually living them is the true key to career success.

Some important rules to remember:

Drug-Free Workplace: Disney Cruise Line strictly enforces a zero tolerance, drug-free workplace and living atmosphere. Random drug tests are conducted on a weekly basis.

Alcohol Usage: Alcohol consumption is allowed for Crew Members over the age of 21 who are mature, responsible drinkers while off duty. Alcohol testing is required for positions that require specific safety drill duties and random testing may be conducted of any Crew Member at any time.

Appearance Guidelines: All Crew Members are required to wear uniforms (also referred to as costumes), and the appearance guidelines for on and off duty are strictly enforced.

Safety & Maritime Laws: As a Crew Member, you are trained to guide our Guests through safety drills and follow U.S. Maritime Laws and Coast Guard safety regulations.

Credentials: Since we sail in international waters, every Crew Member (except Canadian passport holders and U.S. citizens and/or residents) is responsible for obtaining his or her Seaman’s Visa (C1/D) and passport.

United States Public Health Guidelines: These guidelines are strictly enforced, up to and including dismissal for any violations, with training being provided for Crew Members and Officers on a continual basis.

Violence/Harassment Free Workplace: DCL operates a workplace free of violence and harassment. We create and maintain a comfortable working and living environment for all Crew and Officers, and expect you to do the same. Compliance training is mandatory and offered on a continual basis.
