Island Living

“Maintaining a Bahamian island can be tough. Crew Members work really hard to prepare Castaway Cay for our Guests. Water gear needs to be sanitized, there’s machinery to repair, bushes to weed, beaches to rake, lounge chairs to straighten and lots of pressure washing to be done. Guests visit the island usually for only one day of their cruise and we are eager to make their experience the most memorable on their cruise.”

Although our Island Crew lives in a tropical paradise, working on Castaway Cay is no vacation. It takes teamwork, dedication and a lot of preparation to keep Castaway Cay intact for the enjoyment of our Guests.

Island Crew Members live in similar quarters to their colleagues onboard our ships. Living quarters are small, but functional shared spaces with TV/DVD, a lockable storage space, bathroom and small refrigerator. Shared Crew spaces are available including a recreation room with board games, books and a large television, a Crew Gym, store, cafeteria and free Internet room and free access in crew areas.

Since just about all of the Island Crew members start and end their day at the same time, there is a strong sense of community, almost like a small family. In the afternoon, after the Guests have left and all work is done, all five teams frequently gather together for a Crew activity such as water sports or friendly volleyball or basketball competition. Usually the Crew on Castaway Cay is able to have one day off during the week and will often take a Crew boat across to the Abaco Islands to visit family, experience a local excursion or shop.
